Obi Igwe was a very popular Igbo Gospel Musician based in Aba. He hails from Anambra, Umunya precisely, but lived all his life in Aba Obi Igwe was known for speaking the truth fearlessly and courageously with his music. He never shied away from confronting the political authorities of his time. He lived and played his music during the military era in Nigeria, when freedom of speech was guaranteed, but freedom after speech was not.
In spite of the political circumstances of his time, Obi Igwe left a legacy of speaking the truth to power. He preached the word of God with so much venom and audacity, unlike the gospel singers and pastors of today who are only interested in money. Obi Igwe was not so much after money, he revolutionized gospel music, especially in Igbo land with the way he played his music. Those who lived in Aba in the late 80s and in the 90s can tell you more about his impact in Aba and environs. He was a gospel legend to say the least.
