Brazil has created "King Pele Day" to honor its legendary football icon Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known as Pele. The commemorative day will be held on November 19, the date Pele scored his 1,000th goal in 1969.

Pele, considered by many as the greatest footballer of all time, won three World Cups with Brazil and scored over 1,000 goals in his storied career. The law creating "King Pele Day" was promulgated by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva as a tribute to the sporting legend who passed away in 2022 at the age of 82.
