Toxic Alcohol Poisoning Kills 56 in India’s Tamil Nadu

Written by Abdul

The death toll from a batch of toxic illegal alcohol in India's Tamil Nadu state has risen to 56, with 117 people hospitalized, police said Monday. Hundreds of people consumed a locally made "arrack" laced with methanol in Kallakurichi district, leading to one of the worst poisonings in recent years.

Methanol is often added to increase potency, but it can cause blindness, liver damage, and death. The tragedy highlights the ongoing issue of fatalities caused by cheap alcohol made in backstreet distilleries across India.
