Simi Early Life Before The Fame
Simisola Bolatito Ogunleye known by her stage name ‘Simi’ is a Nigerian R&B singer, songwriter, stage performer, recording artist, model, philanthropist, dancer and actress born on the 19th of April, 1988 in Ojuelegba, Surulere, Lagos State. She attended Stars International College, Ikorodu, Lagos. She also attended Convenant University where she
studied Mass Communication.
She is the last in the family of four children, she grew up as a tomboy before the separation of her parents when was 9 years old.
She wrote her first song at the age of 10, at that time she used to sing and dance in her local church choir. She got married to Adekunle Gold on the 9th of January 2019.
Simi Music Career
She officially started music in 2008 when she released her debut album ‘Ogaju’, which was produced by Samklef. The album contained varieties of songs such as ‘Ara Ile’ and ‘Iya Temi’.
In 2014, she released her 5-track EP ‘Restless’ which was 5-tracked, it was composed of covers recorded by popular tracks, the album earned her a record deal with X3M Music. Later that year she released two singles ‘Tiff’ and ‘E No Funny’. The video for ‘Tiff’ was directed by Josh Clarke and released on August 30, 2015. The song was nominated for Best Alternative Song at the 2015 Headies Awards. Later in 2015 she won The Most Promising Act to Watch category at the 2015 Nigerian Entertainment Awards.
Ever since Simi has released several hit tracks like Jamb Question, Smile For Me, Love Don’t Care. She has also featured prominent artists in her songs like Adekunle Gold, Falz, Legendury Beatz, among others. She debuted her second album ‘Jamb Question’ in 2016. On February 14, 2016, she released ‘Love Don’t Care’ produced by Oscar Heman Ackar, it addressed tribalism and discrimination among Nigerians. It’s video was directed by Clarence Peters. She was nominated for Best Breakthrough Act at the MTV Africa Music Awards. Simi was nominated in three categories at The Headies 2016 winning one.
Simi released two singles ‘Smile For Me’ and ‘Joromi’ which were accompanied by their various videos was directed by Clarence Peters. She released her second album ‘Simisola’, it ranked No. 5 on the Billboard World Albums chart.
In March 2019, Simi announced the release of her third album ‘Omo Charlie Champagne, Vol. 1’ to coincide with her birthday. The album is a mixture of sentimental ballad, Afropop, Afro-fusion, Afro-soul, R&B, EDM and moombahton. The album featured guest appearance
from Patoranking, Maleek Berry, Falz and Adekunle Gold. It’s production was primarily handled by Oscar Heman Ackar with additional production from Vtek, Legendury Beatz and Sess. The album was dedicated to her father who died in 2014.
