Patoranking Early Life Before The Fame
Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie known by his stage name ‘Patoranking’ is a Nigerian reggae dancehall singer and songwriter was born on the 27th of May,1990 , he was born and bred in Ijegun Egba Satellite Town and originated from Onicha, Ebonyi State. He attended Citizen Comprehensive College in Epe, Lagos and later enrolled at Jibril Martin Memorial Grammar School, Iponri.
Patoranking Music Career
Patoranking started his career as a street jam and carnival dancer, according to him his musical name was given to him by a Jamaican artist he met at alpha beach in Lagos. He has Buju Banton, Bob Marley, Fela Kuti, Lucky Dube, Chaka Demus, Majek Fashek, Blackky, Tuface, and Marvelous Benjy as his source of inspiration.
Going by the name Patorico he joined an Afro pop group called Da Flavour Squad which went more than just being some kids on the block , they performed at shows in Lagos and even outside Lagos. Patoranking however left the group to pursue a solo career and choose Dance hall and Reggae as his genre.
In May, 2012, he released a single titled ‘Iya Yemisi’ in which he featured Qdot and Khaj, the song which is a fusion of dancehall and fuji. On the 12th of September, 2013 Patoranking released ‘Alubarika’ featuring Timaya was shot by AJE Films, the song literally means ‘Blessing’ was described by the artist as a summary of his life a musician and said it popens doors for him in terms of his fan base and working with established musicians.
In February, 2014 he signed a record deal with Foston Musik and ended his connection with Dem Mama records. Later that month he released ‘Girlie O’ produced by Wizzypro, the music video was shot in London and directed by Moe Musa. Foston Musik released the Remix of ‘Girlie O’ alongside Tiwa Savage on the 19th of May, 2014. The song ranked Number 9 on MTV Base’s official Naija Top 10 chart. The video was also shot in London and directed by Moe Musa.
He was featured on Seyi Shay’s ‘Murda’ alongside Shaydee . The song was produced by Dokta Frabz and was directed by Meji Alabi for JM Films.
Patoranking’s ‘Daniella Whine’ and ‘My Woman’ singles ranked on MTV Base Official Naija Top 10 Chart as No.4 and No.1 respectively. He was announced in 2016 as one of the judges for the maiden edition of the singing competition ‘The Voice Nigeria’.
On the 1st of August, 2016, He released his first album title ‘God Over Everything’. The album featured the likes of Phyno, Wizkid, Sarkodie, Olamide, Elephant Man and Wasiu Ayinde Marshall. The album debuted at No. 4 on Billboard’s Reggae Album chart.
In 2019, he initiated the ALU program to train 10 innovative and passionate children who couldn’t have access to proper education especially the children from Ebuta Metta where he grew up.
On the 24th of May, 2019, he released his second album titled ‘Wilmer’.
